Case Study – From Silence to Success: The Journey of Amit Sahani
NDS reaches out to low-income deaf youth between the ages of 18 and 30 years old. Their goal is to have each student build techniques required to become self-sufficient and a part of mainstream society. They develop life skills for employment in varied fields, helping them focus on their abilities rather than their disability.
Amit Sahani is a 27-year-old Deaf individual from Uttar Pradesh. Born Deaf into a modest family, with his father working as a fruit seller and his mother a homemaker, Amit faced persistent communication barriers throughout his life.
He began his education in a Deaf school and later moved to Indore for further studies. After completing Class XII, he transitioned to a mainstream college to pursue a B. Com degree, as per family aspirations. However, the lack of accessible communication and support systems made learning difficult. With limited exposure to Indian Sign Language (ISL) at home, Amit struggled to express himself and engage fully, leading to reduced confidence, self-expression and preparedness for the job market, making it difficult to secure employment.
In January 2026, Amit joined Noida Deaf Society (NDS), where he received training in ISL, Hospitality, Retail, Data Entry Operations, English communication, typing, and workplace readiness. The programme helped him improve his communication skills, build confidence, and prepare for employment opportunities in an inclusive environment.
After the completion of training, Amit secured employment as a Hospitality Assistant at Godrej, where colleagues make efforts to communicate using ISL and written methods, inculcating inclusion and respect. The opportunity has given him financial independence and confidence.
Amit shares, “I am deeply grateful to NDS and CHFC for believing in my abilities and giving me the opportunity to grow. This is the beginning of my flying journey, and my success is because of your support.”
